Mickey & Minnie Cupcakes {Twins 2nd Birthday}

A sweet set of twins turned two in May and their mom threw an adorable Mickey & Minnie themed birthday party for them! I had the honor of making their Elmo 1st birthday cake last year, and was so thrilled to be called back for their 2nd birthday!

She loved the idea of cupcakes with toppers with the classic silhouette of mouse ears and for each one to be decorated as either Mickey or Minnie. I also made some Mickey Mouse gloves too!

I loved how cartoonish the hands looked, designed after the picture on the cookie cutter set that I made these with! :)

The cupcakes were a mix of peanut butter chocolate with white chocolate buttercream and yellow cake with white chocolate buttercream...delish!! :)

Happy birthday to Maddie & Zach!!

Party Animals

Last year, I had the opportunity to make the 1st birthday cakes for twin brother & sisters - Max & Laia. I was so thrilled to be asked to make their 2nd birthday cake this year! The theme was party animals and their mom wanted some adorable fondant animal toppers for the main cake as well as for their smash cakes!

The main cake had an elephant, monkey and a giraffe and the smash cakes held cutie little lions - all of them dressed up in little party hats! The smash cakes had to be exactly the same, except for the names of course...and as a mom of twins myself, I know why!! Conventional advice says you're supposed to individualize everything so that the children develop their own identities and so on and so forth...but apparently the kids haven't read those articles yet! In my own recent personal experience, different toys, different cakes, different anything could spell disaster if both children gravitate towards one of the items and not the other! And at a party, you just want everyone to be happy! So I took the request very seriously and made sure that everything matched as much as possible! :)

Aces & Spades, Rubber Duckies & Elmo

Last weekend, Heavenly Bites Cakes was super busy with 3 parties to deliver cakes for!

The first one was for a party for an amazing 95 year old woman - her family and friends threw her a casino party!

Next up was a baby shower where the mom-to-be's friends threw her a beautiful baby shower in the W hotel in Hoboken, NJ - they ordered cupcakes with blue babies in blankets toppers and rubber ducky sugar cookies for favors (funny story about these).

And last, but not least...an Elmo cake ordered by a mom in Hoboken for her twins first birthday party! And away we go!

The casino cake was made for Rose who just turned 95 - that is amazing! Her friend that ordered the cake from me told me a little about her and she is a fun, energetic lady who keeps everyone laughing and amazed  by her energy! I was so excited to make the cake for her special occasion. Here are some pictures of the casino cake - inside each tier was vanilla cake with cannoli cream filling and vanilla whipped cream frosting.

Next up, the baby shower cupcakes and ducks delivered to the W hotel residences in Hoboken, NJ.  The party was planned and hosted by the mom-to-be's friends and sounded like it was amazing! The cupcakes were a mix of chocolate and vanilla cake with blue and white vanilla frosting swirls. Only some of the cupcakes were ordered with the babies in blankets on them. Here is a picture of the topper that was on the cupcakes.

The ducky cookies were really fun to make and definitely my best sugar cookie work to date - so excited with how the icing came out! They ordered 24 cookies to be packaged in clear cellophane bags with blue ribbons.  I had made 25 since there was an extra spot on the cookie sheet and it's always nice to have extra in case one breaks...and I saved the rest of the dough. (luckily!) See "The Cookie Bandit "post for the story of why it's always good to make extra!!

For the first birthday party of twins Madelyn and Zachary, their mom ordered a version of the Elmo cake I made a few months ago, but changed the base fondant color to yellow since the cake was for both a boy and a girl.  The bottom tier was white chocolate cake with cannoli cream filling and white chocolate buttercream and the top tier was devils food cake with strawberry filling and vanilla bean buttercream.  YUM!!

Next up, an order for the St. Ann's of Fair Lawn, NJ "SEUSSICAL" cast party featuring the Cat in the Hat, Horton, Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Grinch and Jojo!!

Double-Whammy

This was an exciting week for Heavenly Bites Cakes with orders for a christening and a 1st birthday for twins! It was a lot of work, but totally worth it...and good prep for next week, when I have THREE cakes due in one weekend!

The christening was for a sweet little angel named Andrew John - hence the fondant angels on the cake!  His mom is a three-peat customer! I had the honor of doing her wedding cake/cupcakes as well as her baby shower cupcakes, so to be doing the christening cake for her as well was awesome!

The bottom tier was devils food cake with white chocolate mousse filling and vanilla buttercream.  The top tier was yellow cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream. YUM.

Additionally, I made vanilla sugar cookies in the shape of an "A", for Andrew, for party favors - they were covered in blue royal icing and decorated with white sprinkles around the edges...

All wrapped up with a party to go to! :)

The second order for the weekend was for brother & sister fraternal twins, Laia & Max who turned 1 this weekend!  For their party, their mom ordered a smash cake for each child to enjoy and a larger cake for the guests!  I somehow neglected to take a picture of the larger cake :( but it was very similar to the smash cakes, but incorporated both the boy and girl color schemes with the Happy Birthday Banner, a fondant "1" and the ribbon around the base of the cake made in a light purple color as the in-between neutral color! :)

Here are pictures of the two smash cakes!

The smash cakes were vanilla cake & buttercream frosting, while the larger cake for the guests was vanilla cake, with chocolate buttercream filling and white chocolate mousse frosting.

Looking forward to next weekend where I'll be making a casino themed 95th birthday cake, an Elmo themed cake for a set of twins 1st birthday and baby shower baby in blanky cupcakes and yellow duck sugar cookie favors!
