Beachy Bridal Shower

Can it really be that the summer is almost over?!? I know it officially lasts until September 21st, but this weekend marks the end of the beach-going season...so I think I better get all of my beachy and nautical cakes from this past summer up on the blog this week! :)

This cake and accompanying cupcakes were made for a bride-to-be in Brookville, NY whose beach themed bridal shower given to her by her family at her aunt's beautiful home was one of the most beautifully set up I have ever seen!

Here is the cake topper:

This sweet little cake was tres leche with caramel buttercream. It was covered in a light pink fondant and decorated with graham cracker sand. The coral was painted on white food color and the shells, starfish and pearls were made of fondant.  The starfish toppers were actually purchased at Michaels (since all the ones I attempted making kept breaking because they were so large!). I added the fondant top hat, bow tie & pearls and used white tulle to make the veil.

The cupcakes were a mix of lemon with cream cheese frosting, s'mores with fluff filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting and tres leche with caramel buttercream.

The cupcakes were topped with graham cracker sand and fondant toppers of shells and starfish, which were dusted with edible luster dust for a little sparkle!

Wishing all the happiness in the world to the bride and groom to be! :)

The Dark Side of Cake

Happy Monday all! This past weekend at Heavenly Bites Cakes, the Dark Side took over our kitchen and Darth Vader made an appearance...in the form of a delicious cake!

This was a cake ordered by a mom in Maplewood, NJ for her son Hudson's birthday party. They also ordered cupcakes with light saber fondant decorations on top!

As decorating commenced, my husband and I could not stop ourselves from walking around humming the Darth Vader theme music "Bah, bah, bah, bum, bah, bah...bum, bah, bahhhhhh..." and the usual Darth Vader quotes of "Luke, I am your faaaatherrrrr" and "The force is strong with this one..." - since a number of our freshman year of college weekends were spent watching the Star Wars trilogy, this was a fun cake to work on that brought back a lot of memories! :)

The cake was a chocolate with vanilla filling and frosting - who knew Darth Vader could be so sweet! The cupcakes were vanilla cake with a vanilla frosting swirl and topped with fondant light sabers!

The whole family came to the door to see the cake when I delivered it and it was so great to see their reactions!!  Happy Birthday Hudson!

Pretty Pink Cupcakes

One of my dear friends, Erin (who I've known since we met in gymnastics class at the age of 3!!) asked me to make cupcakes for her daughter Bridget's 7th birthday party - I was so psyched to do these!!

She requested vanilla cupcakes with hot pink vanilla buttercream and sprinkles.  The best part was when she came to pick them up, Bridget came too and I was so happy to see she loved the cupcakes so much that she wanted to eat hers right then and there!!

Happy Birthday Bridget!! I hope your party was fantastic!!!

Text me!

As texting has become hugely popular, especially with the teenage set, I designed these cupcakes for my sweet cousin-in-law who turned 13 last week! 13!! I remember back in college when my husband (future husband, at that time) missed a swim meet to go home to her christening to be her godfather!!

I was thrilled to do these cupcakes for her party as she stepped into the teenage years!

Happy Birthday Jeana!!

Elmo's World!

This Elmo cake and cupcakes were made for the 1st birthday of an adorable little boy named Frankie...I was told that when he saw the cake, he sang "La, la, la, la!" from Elmo's song, which I consider the best review ever!

The cake itself was white chocolate cake with cannoli cream filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting. Elmo himself was fully edible - the body was made of cake and cannoli cream filling and his head was made of rice krispy treat.  Even his eyes and nose were edible - marshmellows!

The cupcakes were a mix of chocolate & vanilla cake and frosting, topped with fondant circle cutouts with the number "1" on them depicting the birthday boy's age. Other cupcakes had Elmo faces on them!

Tennis Anyone?

This past weekend Heavenly Bites took part in its first charity event - a benefit for homeless families in Bergen County, NJ through the Interreligious Fellowship for the Homeless.  So proud to be taking part in this event for a very worthy cause, we made 100 cupcakes and provided a Baker's Basket for the silent auction which included cookbooks, a cupcake stand, baking utensils, a $250 gift certificate towards Heavenly Bites as well as a handcrafted cupcake apron by Pretty it Up!

The benefit had a tennis theme, so the cupcakes were topped with tennis balls, tennis rackets and flowers as well!

The Bakers Basket

I was so excited to hear from my friend Erin who asked me to participate in the event that the cupcakes were a big hit and was totally honored to hear that she kept bidding on my basket so that she could win the Heavenly Bites Cakes gift card! Can't wait to decorate her future cake!

Christening Cupcakes

My sweet nephew Jake was baptized this past weekend and I was thrilled to make the cupcakes for his party!  They were a mix of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting (in blue and white).  The little discs and crosses on top were made of fondant and his initials were piped in chocolate buttercream.

Coming up in the next few weeks: a Roary the Car cake, a Curious George cake, tennis cupcakes for a benefit for the homeless and superhero sugar cookie favors!

A (anything but) "Hokie" Bridal Shower

These fall flowered cupcakes, cake topper and Virginia Tech Hokie Bird sugar cookies were made for a bridal shower. The bride (Jen) is a friend of mine and I had the honor of attending the party as well, which was so much fun! It was a wonderful party, planned by her mom and bridesmaids and it had a lot of little touches that were perfectly Jen.

These are the cupcakes - chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with a swirl of vanilla frosting on top. Each cupcake was topped with a large flower made of fondant in fall colors.

The cake was vanilla with chocolate frosting and filling, covered in cream colored fondant, topped with a bouquet of fall flowers, with a brown and burgandy ribbon around the base.

Finally, as a party favor, I made Hokie Bird sugar cookies to celebrate the bride's favorite college football team/alma mater.  These were displayed at each place setting in clear goodie bags and tied with a burgardy ribbon.

Kids Stuff!

The past 2 weeks have been a lot of fun - I had two orders for kids cakes/cupcakes where I really got to experiment with making fondant and gumpaste animals. It was really fun!

Can you tell me how to get....to Sesame Street?

First up was a Sesame Street themed 1st birthday cake for my best friend's son Matthew. I was so psyched to do this cake for them, 1) because Matthew is a little cutiepie and 2) because I can't believe my best friend from high school and I are now at the point in our lives where we're going to our CHILDREN's birthday parties!!

The 3 tier cake was all yellow cake with vanilla filling and frosting. It was decorated all in primary colors with beading around the base of each tier and there was a Sesame Street character on each level - Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Elmo and Oscar. We also made a smash cake for Matthew in the form of a giant cupcake!

The Smash Cake

Jungle Boogie, Jungle Boogie...

Next up was my nephew's 4th birthday! He had a jungle themed party in a park in Hoboken - the perfect location and a beautiful day! We made vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla frosting. For the kids at the party, each had a choice of a cupcake with a fondant jungle animal face - there were lions, tigers, elephants & monkeys to choose from. For the adults, there was a giant swirl of frosting on top. A little melty in the August heat, but it's my opinion that everyone should be licking their fingers at the tail end of eating a cupcake anyway! :)
